MSc Library & Information Resource Centre

Library / Information Resource Centre

The Mansfield Secondary College Information Resource Centre is located in the center of the College and provides a hub of exciting activity all day. It offers a stimulating and collaborative learning space for our community. The IRC and its staff embrace the College’s commitment to the development of lifelong learners.

The physical space is zoned to accommodate diverse teaching and learning styles; these include a number of comfortable lounge chairs, ottomans in the wide reading areas; a teaching and research zone equipped with whiteboard and screen; and a number of desktop computers for research purposes.

Library Staff

The College takes pride in its IRC which is staffed by a qualified librarian and team members who are passionate about supporting the staff and students with their information and reading needs. Our dedicated staff are professionals with diverse backgrounds in information management, IT and teaching.

Staff offer a welcoming environment where discussions with individual students about their reading are commonplace throughout the day. Positive learning relationships are also fostered with students who regularly seek assistance with writing and other library related tasks.

Wide Reading Program

Year 7 classes are timetabled in the IRC for one of their lessons each week. The wide reading lessons form an integral component of the English course. Using this lesson our staff promote a wide variety of books to students fostering a positive relationship with our students and nurture the love of reading and literature.

Research And Information Literacy

The IRC is a gateway to the world of inquiry. We assist students with access and interpretation of information. It is important that our students are literate, critical thinkers in a world saturated by information.

The IRC resources are both print and digital. Our print collection includes fiction, picture books, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, class sets and a range of audio visual equipment which can be borrowed for class use. Digital resources can be accessed remotely from the comfort of your home as well as school. We subscribe to many databases and have these, and other wonderful resources.
