Vocational Education and Training

Students who complete all or part of a nationally recognised qualification may receive credit towards satisfactory completion of their VCE and/or VCAL.

VET at Mansfield Secondary College

Currently we offer three VET programs as part of the curriculum.

In Year 11 students may complete their Certificate 2 in Business and if numbers permit, they may partially complete a Certificate 3 in Business in Year 12.

The VCE VET Business program is drawn from a national training package and offers portable qualifications which are recognised throughout Australia. These qualifications provide students with a broad range of knowledge and skills to pursue a career or further training in the business industry. The Certificate II and III in Business provides a pathway for students who wish to continue with their business studies into higher education.

In Years 10, 11 and 12 students may undertake units of competency from the Certificate 3 in Catering Operations. This program is drawn from a national training package and offers portable qualifications which are recognised throughout Australia. This qualification provides students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them for a diverse range of occupations in the hospitality industry including commercial cookery, catering and food and beverage service.

In Years 9 and 10 students can complete a Certificate 2 in Agriculture through our Agribusiness program. This qualification provides students with a broad range of skills and knowledge to pursue a career or further training in related industries. A number of students will pursue further opportunities in the agricultural industry by undertaking an Australian School Based Apprenticeship with a local primary producer.

Recognition can be achieved through:
  • enrolment in a VCAA-approved VCE VET program, or a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship
  • enrolment in any other nationally recognised qualification at certificate II level or above – this arrangement is called block credit recognition

VET in the VCE and VCAL

VET in the VCE or VCAL allows students to include VET within their senior secondary certificate. Students undertake nationally recognised training from either accredited state curriculum or national training packages which may contribute to their VCE and/or VCAL.

VCE VET programs

VCE VET programs are VET qualifications approved by the VCAA which offer students the opportunity to gain both the VCE and a nationally portable VET qualification.
